In addition to frontline policing, he spent 6 years as a member of the Emergency Response Unit, served in the Criminal Investigation Division, Headquarters Detention Unit, a street patrol supervisor and the supervisor in the Planning & Research Unit. His final position before retiring was with the Human Resources Branch.

Scott has over 25 years of experience in developing and teaching courses at the college and university level. As a Certified Master Police Coach through the Dalhousie University Police Leadership Program, Scott has facilitated numerous Managing Police Performance - Certified Police Coach workshops, and also taught several courses within the same program for over 13 years. Scott spent 6 years as the Academic Coordinator for the Athabasca University, Bachelor of Professional Arts - Criminal Justice program and taught numerous courses; in addition, he wrote two senior level courses in police management and civil rights.

Upon retiring from policing, Scott was the Dean, School of Fire Sciences & Public Safety for Lambton College in Ontario overseeing all fire and public safety programs, and was responsible for developing several new college programs. Scott left that position to be a Professor at the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business (Fanshawe College) teaching in the HR Diploma and Graduate Certificate programs, as well as the new Bachelor of Commerce (Human Resource Management) degree program, with a focus on training & development, and performance management.

As a life-long learner, over a 22 year period Scott has completed a Fanshawe College Management Studies certificate, a Dalhousie University Certificate in Police Leadership; is a graduate of the Bachelor of Professional Arts (Criminal Justice major) program at Athabasca University, and has completed a Diploma in Public Administration and Master of Public Administration degree at the University of Western Ontario. Scott completed his Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree at Columbia Southern University, with a research focus on the nexus between performance management and competency-based hiring practices in Canadian police services. A significant piece of this research focused on entry-level education levels for police officers.

In 2017, Scott joined the Laurier Policing and Public Safety programs and has served as the Program Coordinator for all undergraduate programs, and as the Graduate Officer for the Master of Public Safety program.
