I have a PhD in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo (2020), specializing in Human Factors and Human-computer Interaction. Prior to joining Laurier, I was a researcher at the Human Optimization Modelling Lab at the University of Waterloo.
My research aims to understand human performance and behavior in complex sociotechnical systems. This has resulted in the following four inter-related programs of research:
-Understanding human behavior in interactive social systems, with an emphasis on persuasive technology, technology adoption, social and entertainment computing (games).
-Modeling human behavior in complex systems, with an emphasis on automated usability testing, cognitive modeling, model-based user interface evaluation.
-Exploring designs for human-machine symbiosis, with an emphasis on immersive computing applications (AR, XR, VR), multimodal interfaces, wearable technology.
-Using human factors to rethink contemporary moral and privacy-related issues in emerging sociotechnical systems, with a focus on algorithmic transparency, accountability and fairness, and dark design patterns in UX.
I draw upon research methods and concepts from user experience design, human factors, human-computer interaction, and information systems.
