I am a Certified Music Therapist (CAMT), a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO), and an AMI-endorsed Guided Imagery and Music practitioner. In addition, to my Master of Music Therapy degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, I hold a Master of Music (Collaborative Piano) from Bowling Green State University, and a Bachelor of Music (Piano and Voice Performance) from West Virginia University.
I have held teaching and coach-accompanist positions at several Malaysian institutions: UCSI University, Bentley Music Academy, Nexus International School, and the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre. My teaching experience has been diverse and includes working with young children, university students, and adults – both working and retired. Out of all these teaching experiences, witnessing music bring excitement and newfound hope to underprivileged youth and individuals with special needs holds a special place in my heart. It is through teaching music among the disadvantaged and refugee communities in Malaysia that developed my interest in music and wellness.
I have since received clinical training and have practiced music therapy in acute medical care, inpatient mental health, and community settings; using music as a therapeutic medium to address physical, emotional, cognitive, communicative, social, and spiritual needs. Through music and other creative means, I support individuals as they work towards mental health, redefine life after trauma and loss, live with disabilities, and cope with illness.
