Bio/Research

I earned a bachelor and master's degree in chemical engineering in 1996 and 1998, respectively and a PhD Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2004. Between 2000 and 2018 I was a professor in the Food Science and Technology Institute at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, teaching for the food and chemical engineer programs. Currently, I'm a visiting professor in Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo.

I have been working on several areas of bioprocess engineering, including kinetic modelling and simulation, immobilized cells and bioreactor design applied to the culture of yeasts, bacteria and microalgae. My recent research focus on:

-The use of CO2 from wine and beer fermentation for microalgae growth and carotenoid production.
-Mathematical modelling of microalgae growth and biomolecule synthesis.
-Mathematical modelling of enzymatic polymerization processes.
