Biography

I studied french horn performance and music theory at the Eastman School of Music and earned my PhD in music theory from the University of Toronto. My publications (in Music Analysis, Music Theory Online, The Oxford Handbook of Musical Variation, and Music Theory and Analysis) showcase two analytical threads central to my research on musical form: (1) an emphasis on composer- and genre-specific analysis to assess normativity, and (2) the (re)theorization of formal practices by centering composers marginalized in music-theoretical discourse.

Before coming to Laurier, I taught music theory courses at Virginia Tech, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and Penn State. I’m looking forward to teaching in the theory department here at Laurier and adapting my materials to meet the needs of the students.
