Bio/Research

I have been playing guitar since I was 13, and singing as soon as I discovered it was an option. Consequentially, I have performed in over 50 plays, musicals, and/or operas in my time with many different organizations locally and abroad. Academically, I hold a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Wilfrid Laurier University, and have also studied in intensives at L'Académie de Fourvière in Lyon, France; Voice Lab at Laurier, and Stage Head Academy in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. I have been teaching privately since 2016, and I have also enjoyed vocal directing for Laurier Musical Theatre and Original Kids Theatre.

Besides musical theatre, my desire to study classical voice and guitar came from my adolescent love of symphonic metal and its raw, operatic vocals. Other genres that have historically inspired me include emo/punk, classic rock from the 60s and beyond, acoustic singer/songwriters, choral music, art song, and video game OSTs. With vocalists, I love to work on musical theatre, classical, folk, and pop, as well as sight singing and ear training. Guitarists can expect a focus on strong rhythm playing, solo melodies, fingerstyle/classical, composition and song structure, and developing musicality (i.e. “rocking out”).

Currently, I am fortunate to play and sing in several local rock bands, and I otherwise collaborate with my fellow musicians and artists whenever possible. I have found that making music with others is one of the most healing and nourishing experiences the world has to offer.
