Bio/Research

I have earned a PhD in Musicology from the University of British Columbia. My dissertation examined the role that music plays in influencing how players feel in pastoral (forests and fields) and anti-pastoral (eerie) landscapes in the video games Final Fantasy X, XII, XIII, and XV. I have attained a Joint Honours Bachelor of Arts in Music and Classical Studies (Languages Specialization) from the University of Waterloo, as well as an ARCT in Piano Pedagogy from the Royal Conservatory of Music.

I am currently a sessional instructor at the University of Waterloo (Conrad Grebel University College) where I teach Introduction to Video Game Music. I have also been teaching piano and music theory for over 13 years and enjoy creating teaching resources for other music educators that I share via my store, The Travelling Troubadour Music Resources, on TPT (formerly TeachersPayTeachers) and Boom Learning.

Music and landscapes from Final Fantasy XVI, lament in the NieR series, and archaeogaming, music, and katabasis in Persona 5 Royal and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin.
