My education started in science at the University of British Columbia where I completed a BSc in Physical Geography in 1998. After five years of working in an aerial photography firm, I entered the PhD program in Economics in 2003 and completed the program in 2010.
Since starting at Laurier in 2008, I have taught in both the economics program and the Master’s in International Public Policy program offered through the School of International Policy and Governance. My teaching has focused on Microeconomic Theory and topics related to Development Economics.
My research focuses on institutional development at the international, national and local scales. Recent work has focused on the role of ethnic diversity on government quality and the provision of public goods, and on the interaction between formal and informal institutions with a particular focus on the evolution of trust and social preferences. Recent publications have appeared in the Journal of African Economies and the Journal of Law, Economics and Organization.
