Bio/Research
I am a proud alumnus of the Laurier Music Faculty (2010) where I studied voice with Daniel Cabena and was a theory major. I did my Masters and Doctoral work at the University of Western Ontario. I received my PhD specializing in music theory in 2017. My dissertation titled “Felix Mendelssohn and Sonata Form in the Nineteenth Century” was supervised by Dr. John Cuciurean and continued my interest in the study of form and hermeneutic analysis of musical works first piqued right here at Laurier with Dr. Kevin Swinden. I am delighted to be “home” teaching theory courses!
My primary area of research is musical form of the late-eighteenth to early-nineteenth centuries. I am currently working on developing themes from my dissertation including expanding concepts of the transforming role of the medial caesura in the early-nineteenth century and a long-term project focusing on the “narrative sonata.”
