Bio/Research
I am originally from rural Indiana, born into a large, musical family. As a child, I studied piano and voice, sang in choirs, played saxophone in jazz and marching band. I acted and sang in school musical productions. And I loved all of it. I decided to become a music teacher and received a BA in Music with emphasis in Piano Pedagogy from Goshen College where I studied piano, harpsichord and pipe organ with Marvin Blickenstaff and Kathryn Sherer.
Throughout my 30-year career as a musician, I have taught piano and pipe organ students of all ages, played organ and piano for church services in my role as director of music at churches in Waterloo, Goderich and Port Elgin, conducted adult and children’s choirs and handbell choirs, accompanied soloists and groups in recordings and live concerts. In 2007, I received an Associate degree from the Royal Canadian College of Organists. Currently I am the director of music at First United Church, Waterloo, teach piano at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate in Kitchener, and accompany the Menno Singers choir.
