I joined Laurier after receiving my PhD in Psychology (specializing in Language and Cognition) from the University of Connecticut in 2006. I have a BA in Psychology from York University and a BBA (majoring in Finance) from the National University of Singapore.
The main focus of my research is on early childhood learning in language and mathematics. Learning in both home and child care settings and through technology and traditional play are examined. I also study monolingual vs. bilingual learners and children with special learning needs (e.g., visual impairment). I am partnering with the Ontario Early Years Centres and the public libraries in the Waterloo region on research as well as on program creation and delivery. I am also involved in a partnership with an educational software company to develop evidence-based games for students with autism spectrum disorder.
