Bio/Research

I received my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Western University, my master's in Human Kinetics in Sport Psychology from the University of Windsor, and my PhD/DPE in Sport Psychology, and Teaching and Administration from Springfield College.

I have been at Laurier since 2003 in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education.

My research program is focussed on the psychology of injury and psychological recovery from injury. I am interested in studying the many psychosocial issues involved in injury and rehabilitation; in particular, the emotional recovery from injury and the role of health professionals in the rehabilitation of injured people.

I have several projects focusing on the experiences of individuals recovering from moderate to severe injuries, also including spinal cord injuries. I also work in the area of enhancing health and physical activity behaviours of people across their lifespan along with retirement and transition from competitive sport.

In addition, I am a performance enhancement consultant and work with individual athletes as well as teams in many areas of mental skills training and performance enhancement. My teaching areas include sport psychology, particularly applied sport and exercise psychology, psychology of injury and rehabilitation, as well as other areas within the socio-cultural area of sport.
