I received a PhD in Communication and Culture from the interdisciplinary joint program at Ryerson/York in 2008. My MA and BA are in Political Science (from the University of Saskatchewan and University of Toronto).
My teaching and research focus on the big questions of how we organize ourselves in society. How did today's inequalities come to be "normal," and why do so many people go along with the status quo so much of the time? Who actively resists -- why, when, and how? What would it look like to live in a truly democratic, socially just, and ecologically sustainable society? How do we get from here to there?
I'm a senior editor at the Hamilton Review of Books, where I head the "What Matters Now" section focusing on nonfiction with a political bent.
I'm currently writing a collection of essays around the theme of crisis.
