Bio/Research

I have recently completed a Bachelor of Music Therapy degree (BMT) from Wilfrid Laurier University, with a background in Community Music. While studying the accessibility and clinical purposes of music making, I continued my classical training through RCM, studying theory and repertoire under Colin Labadie and Jason White, respectively.

I have been building my pedagogical material and teaching piano since 2016, supporting students through RCM examinations, recitals, local competitions, and other musical aspirations. During my time at Laurier, I contributed my teaching services to the Community Music School of Waterloo Region, and built my pedagogical skills through attending workshops, shared resources, and pedagogical training provided by many qualified teachers and professors from the Beckett School and Laurier. My broad education has enabled me to understand and adapt my teaching to accommodate learning and cognitive needs, including those of individuals on the autism spectrum, with parkinson’s, and various other physical disabilities.

I am a firm believer that creative musicianship can be fostered in many ways. Drawing upon my community music and music therapy education allows me to foster music skills beyond sight reading and ear training. I encourage students to experience improvisation, composition, and recreating pre-composed music to support their confidence in their learning and creativity.

Currently, I am continuing my education in the Master's of Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy program at Martin Luther University College to further support my music therapy practice.
